We make a big deal out of our certifications in canine behavior because we believe it is vital for a trainer to have the education to back up his or her title. Unfortunately, anyone can call themselves a dog trainer. There are no regulations on a state or federal level.
The trainers at Second City Dog Training have dedicated their lives to helping dogs and their families find common ground. All hold a certification in dog training from the Canine Trade Group school, headed by renowned canine professional John Van Olden.
What exactly does it take to become a certified dog trainer?
All those attending the CTG program must spend hundreds of hours familiarizing themselves with canine psychology, training methodology, canine history, and case studies. We want to make sure all of our professionals have a fully stocked arsenal of training techniques from which to choose. We want them to feel confident handling even the toughest behavioral cases.
Next, our trainers get real-world experience. Typically, Canine Trade Group trainers gain field experience by working with shelter dogs. This offers trainers the opportunity to work with some of the most challenging behavioral problems while also helping to prepare dogs for adoption into a forever home. We get to do what we love and learn at the same time.
Then, our trainers shadow another CTG-certified trainer to make sure they are ready to branch out independently. Only after our trainers display an exceptional understanding of the in-home training process are they deemed fully certified and ready to take on clients of their own.
At this point, they are certified trainers, but the folks at Second City Dog Training take their education a step further. We stay sharp by staying up to date on all new industry information and case studies so we can continue to serve you and your pup at the highest possible level.
